OneSixTwo was a personal project I pursued in 2015. Over a little more than two months, I went to a different San Francisco bar each night to watch the Giants game. I wrote about the game, the bar, and the people I met.
It was a lot of fun, and fairly successful. At its peak, the blog got a few dozen hits a day. The local sports radio station, KNBR, even asked me to write a shorter version of the blog for their website.

From 2012 to 2014, I wrote several pieces for The Bold Italic, a San Francisco-focused zine with a broad readership among twenty- and thirtysomethings.
I wrote my first piece, “Bookin’ It to the Bar,” about the controversial practice of reading in bars. Hard-hitting? Not exactly. But it was one of the 20 most-read stories of the year.
Other pieces I wrote for The Bold Italic include a story about bandwagon Giants fans, a report on the whiniest city in the country (San Francisco), and an examination of the rock band Phish.

As a young, eager writer, I wrote a few concert reviews for Spin magazine’s online blog “It Happened Last Night.” It was a tough job: not only was it unpaid, but it required me to review bands I’d never heard of on extremely tight timelines.
For most of these shows, I carried a pocket voice recorder, which I’d use to record the show then reference as I wrote my review at home, often googling barely intelligible lyrics to figure out song names.

In early 2008, I began writing profiles of drummers for DRUM! Magazine. Over the next two years, I wrote several 1,000-word profiles and one 2,500-word feature story about session drummer Bashiri Johnson.

After graduating from college, I became an editorial intern at San Francisco magazine. Following my internship, I was hired to be the magazine’s web editor and the managing editor of its biannual men’s magazine, Men’s Book.
As web editor, I launched and managed the magazine’s first-ever blog. Though it was difficult to convince print-minded writers and editors of the importance of a digital presence, the blog became a well-read repository of concert reviews, restaurant openings, event calendars, and exhibition reviews.
As managing editor of Men’s Book, I worked with the editor-in-chief to develop content, hire writers and photographers, interview subjects, and write stories. During this time, I interviewed Dan Aykroyd, Bill Pullman, former mayor Willie Brown, Giants commentators Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper, and San Francisco fashion icon Wilkes Bashford.
